There's a good chance that you won't much like Mark Lundholm at first. After all, he starts his one-man show, 'Addicted,' by describing his failed attempt to carjack a woman at gunpoint. He goes on to tell you that he's an ex-con -- no surprise -- as well as a former addict and dealer who walked out on his wife and young daughter and wound up as a suicidal street person. Lundholm is anything but proud of his past, and he makes no excuses for himself. Instead, he takes the audience on an autobiographical journey that's both disturbing and hilarious as it examines his troubled childhood, addictions and continuing recovery.
Audiences may recognize Lundholm from his numerous stand-up appearances (including a Showtime special), but 'Addicted' isn't the usual comedy club routine -- it's a two-act piece complete with dramatic lighting and the theatrical know-how of director Bob Balaban. By the end of the show, you'll have learned a lesson or two from Lundholm's experiences with drugs and alcohol, and he'll have you laughing (and, with any luck, thinking) about all of the addictions that can plague us. Coffee, shopping, money, sports, surfing the Web -- chances are that you're a bit of a "user" yourself. -- Chris Perkowski
Did You Know? Mark Lundholm started his stand-up career while he was still in rehab, participating in a variety show that taught him to turn his darkest experiences into comedy. This led to engagements at other treatment facilities, prisons and eventually comedy clubs across the country, where the average heckler is slightly less intimidating.
What About Bob? Director Bob Balaban, perhaps best known for his role as lovesick NBC executive Russell in TV's 'Seinfeld,' also directed stage hit 'The Exonerated' and the films 'The Last Good Time' and 'Parents' (a cult classic featuring a cannibalistic Randy Quaid).
